Bangun Mbinu Dita 10.10.2020

Dear Madam, dear Sir, dear families and dear all, how are you today? Here all good, and we want to send you a warm and huge “Hello” from #RebuildMbinuDita site here in East-Sumba.

As you know, the foundation undertook to rebuild its school which was destroyed by a storm in December 2019 (https://youtu.be/h2E1zk2y3x0 – Date: January 2020). And it looks like really Amazing! What is amazing about this #RebuildMbinuDita adventure is how children are involved every day working, to rebuild their future school. Check the pictures below, you will see many of them. They just can’t wait to go back to their new school. Before, the school that collapsed was a bit like “the center of their world” you know! Those who live there in one of the most rural areas that can be found, school is simply “everything” for them! Really!

Here are some new pictures of our work on the #RebuildMbinudita site.

For two months now, we have been on site living the day-to-day construction of the #RebuildMbinuDita school. As you can see, this school is quite amazing in its style unlike any other school in Sumba, if not even in Indonesia. The frame is made of steel, made up of hundreds of steel beams, thousands of screws and bolts. This makes it flexible and resistant to earthquakes, storms and other natural disasters. 95% of the materials used were ordered from Java, more than 2,500 kilometers from MbinuDita. Most everything was shipped by container, using the sea route, two weeks journey from Surabaya to MbinuDita.

What is extraordinary about this great human adventure is that we must all draw on our reserves, both mental and physical. Indeed, the living conditions on site are extreme, sleeping is a real challenge, washing is complicated. And then you have to eat healthy because the weather conditions are violent: The wind is strong, very strong, the heat during the day is overwhelming and the cold at night quite paralyzing.

But now, there is this program: Sublime and exciting, also intoxicating which in a few weeks will give back joy, life, hope to hundreds of children, then to their children … To all this extraordinary local community which will have the means there to develop social, health, economic and artistic activities with all of us from the foundation.

Yesterday October 10, we had very bad news… Our 8,000 Watts power generator died tonight! For several days, we kept him alive, on a drip. Alas, that night, he took his last breath! For us it’s a bit (a lot) of a disaster. Without electricity, we cannot build, we can do little or nothing. Living, cooking will be complicated. And in Sumba, there is no generator with a minimum power of 8,000 watts. And we are far from everything! So now we have to rack our brains … How to find this ESSENTIAL unit for our life there? For the light, fine, we have 2x solar panels, but it is only for a few hours a day, in the evening.

As always, we smile as happiness of being together is the key too! We will overcome this obstacle as we overcome all others before this;-)
